About Tyler Fox

I am a candidate who has experienced firsthand the struggles of growing up in a low-income family. My own experience with housing insecurity in my childhood has only strengthened my resolve to make sure that everyone has access to safe and affordable housing.

In college, I faced a medical crisis before I turned 21. This experience has made me a passionate advocate for affordable and accessible healthcare for all, regardless of employment status.

Currently, I serve as a Planning Commissioner and Zoning Board of Appeals Ambassador for the City of Troy. In this role, I have seen firsthand how restrictive local zoning can harm communities and prevent vital housing projects from moving forward. I believe that we need to build more affordable, sustainable, and community-oriented developments that will allow more people to thrive in our state.

In 2019, I married my wife, Audrey, and we are looking to start a family, but we are worried about the high cost of childcare in our community. If elected, I will work to make childcare more accessible and affordable for all families, so that everyone can have the opportunity to start a family and build a brighter future for themselves and their children.

I am committed to building a better future for all Michiganders. I will work tirelessly to make sure that our state is a place where everyone can succeed and thrive.

Issues

Issues

Living in Southeast Michigan is a beautiful experience, but we cannot deny the fact that it can be quite expensive. My aim in Lansing is to create and implement innovative policies that will reduce costs in all areas while investing in the needs of our community. District 57 is a diverse community with people holding different beliefs, but I am confident that this community values the protection of democracy and individual rights of our citizens.

Reliable and Clean

Energy

I don't know about you, but my family spends a lot of money every month to keep our lights on. However, we still face annual blackouts that have lasted for days in some instances. As a representative, I intend to pressure DTE to construct a dependable and eco-friendly energy grid that can ensure uninterrupted power supply while also safeguarding our stunning natural resources.

Creating Affordable

Housing

Whether you're a first-time home buyer, a retiree looking to downsize, or an immigrant wanting to reunite with your family in the US, owning a home is becoming increasingly challenging. As a representative in Lansing, I will make every effort to create a fair competition with large corporations that outbid local families and work with communities to reduce rental costs across the board. I will also push to repeal the State’s ban on municipal rent control.

Reducing Childcare

Costs

Michigan is currently among the most expensive states in the US to raise children. Governor Whitmer has fought to create many programs to expand access to childcare, and they are a great start. As someone who hopes to be a parent in the future, I believe it is crucial that we build on this progress so that every young family can afford to provide their children with the necessary care without facing exorbitant costs.

Making Healthcare Affordable

When I suffered a major health event in 2016, I was fortunate enough to be on State Administered Medicaid. Fortunately, I was able to avoid potentially decades of crippling medical debt. I think affordable, manageable healthcare costs should be available to all Michiganders, regardless of their background and employment status. For reasons I am sure you can guess, I am especially interested in protecting those with pre-existing conditions.

Protecting Individual Freedoms

As a devout member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, I understand the significance of faith in our daily lives. It is through my faith that I comprehend the necessity of safeguarding and embracing every person I encounter, regardless of their race, religion, gender, sexuality, or gender expression. I am proud to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ and immigrant communities and will always fight for the protection of their individual freedoms.

Defending Democracy

In Michigan, we have fought long and hard to ensure that all eligable voters have access to the ballot box. While we have secured many victories for ballot access in the past few elections, we must ensure we continue to send politicians to Lansing that understand the importance of free and fair elections. Right now, there are elected officials in our state who refuse to acknowledge election outcomes that do not favor their party. This is unacceptable, and I will fight relentlessly to protect our democracy.

Fighting for the

Working Class

As the son of a proud UAW member, I understand the importance of unions in building a strong middle class. Both of my grandfathers and my wife are also UAW members. In my career as a union steward, I have successfully negotiated for record wage increases and benefit expansions. I firmly believe that unions are essential to protecting workers' rights, and I am committed to fighting for these rights in Lansing. But I also believe that unions can do more than that. I want to push the envelope and explore new ways for unions to represent and serve their members.

Investing in

Turtle Woods

Oakland County Parks and Six Rivers Land Conservancy have been collaborating since 2023 to safeguard Turtle Woods, a natural habitat located at the intersection of Square Lake and John R. Road. By preserving this area, we are not only protecting our environment but also securing a peaceful retreat for our community. As your representative in Lansing, I am committed to ensuring that Turtle Woods remains untouched and accessible for generations to come.

Supporting Small Businesses

As a former small business owner, I know firsthand the challenges that entrepreneurs face when trying to get their ventures off the ground. For years, my wife and I ran a small candle company from our home. That is why I strongly believe that our state should do more to support small business owners. Whether they are aspiring entrepreneurs or immigrants looking to establish themselves in our community, all Michiganders deserve the opportunity to achieve their dreams. By providing support and resources to these individuals, we can help them build successful businesses that contribute to our economy and strengthen our communities.
